Beneath The Surface: Zed Kenzo

Good evening and welcome to another cheeky little Beneath The Surface sesh. For todays chat I am joined by the talented Zed Kenzo, so sit yourself down and get toasty as we dive right in.

What would you say first sparked your interest in music/who inspired you to make music?

I think I have a natural connection to music. Since I can remember I’ve always loved singing along to and listening to music. My mom enrolled me in piano training at age 7, I grew I up in church in the choir so I believe the piano paired with that created a formula that eventually sparked Zed Kenzo.

How would you describe the music you are currently creating?

I would describe my sound as eccentric, bad ass, self composed and fun. It is for the misunderstood underdogs who are also extremely creative, open minded and lit.

What does your creative process look like?

I tend to create sporadically. I get all my creative ideas while falling asleep or being bored at my day job. I will occasionally write ideas (lyrics, designs, concepts) down and execute. Otherwise I just go with the flow. For my music I compose the beat and then write the lyrics- I am inspired by the sound not the other way around.

Who would you most like to collaborate with? (let’s send it out to the universe and make it happen!)

I would like to collab with: Yung Baby Tate, Rico Nasty, Tierra Whack, La Goony Chonga, Leikeli47 and Big Klit

What is the one message you would like to send out to your fans?

To my friends I would say thanks for uplifting, supporting and inspiring me. I tend to suffer from feelings of being misunderstood in general and y’all make me feel like I deserve love, respect, success and happiness. Thanks for rocking with me and validating my creativity which is the main thing that keeps me going. I don’t know who I’d be without art.

What’s your top tip to rejuvenate your creativity/get over a writer’s block?

My top tips for getting out of blocks are, exercise, watching things, seeking inspiration in nature and spending quality time with loved ones! Live life.

What’s next for you, what do we have to look forward to/ what are you currently working on?

My goals are I plan to release an epic album next year. Pre-covid I wanted 2020 to be the year I gain enough reach to be able to tour and meet other artists and music lovers. Last winter I was offered huge opportunities that were lost to covid so for now 2021 is my year for more growth and to make big things happen. I want to live off of being a musician and artist only!
