Barcelona-bound Trincao tipped to ‘define a decade’

Braga president Antonio Salvador has revealed his opinion that Trincao, who is set to join Barcelona this summer, possesses all of the necessary qualities to shape the future of the Spanish champions.

Braga stint

20-year-old attacker Trincao has spent his senior career to date on the books of Portuguese outfit Braga, having come up through the club’s youth ranks.

The versatile starlet can play anywhere across the front-line, but is generally deployed on the right.

He has long been viewed as one of the brightest young talents in his home country of Portugal, with Trincao’s blend of pace, quick feet and final ball making him the ideal modern wide-man.

After impressing as part of Braga’s B-team, the gifted youngster was quickly fast-tracked into the first-team setup of the Primeira Liga outfit, before going on to make his senior debut at the tender age of 18 back in 2018.

It is the current campaign, though, which has seen Trincao go on to establish himself as a genuine star in the making.

Before the COVID-19 outbreak brought football across Europe to a halt, the versatile attacker had directly contributed to 16 goals across all competitions.

Barca switch

Trincao’s mature displays as part of Braga’s senior side this season, meanwhile, inevitably resulted in the interest of some of Europe’s heavyweights being piqued.

Previously, the likes of Juventus, Arsenal and Manchester United were all named as keen admirers of the Portuguese U21 international.

As confirmed on the final day of the January transfer window, though, Trincao’s future beyond the 2019/20 campaign lies in Spain.

This comes after Barcelona struck a €31 million winter deal with Braga, which is set to see the highly-regarded youngster make the move to the Camp Nou at the end of the season.

‘The best’

And, as outlined above, any fans of Barcelona who are as of yet unconvinced regarding Trincao’s potential impact at the club need just pay heed to the latest comments on the part of Braga president Antonio Salvador.

During an online meeting with his side’s supporters over the weekend, Salvador was drawn on a host of topics, one of which included Trincao’s imminent departure.

And the Braga chief went on to reveal his opinion that the Portuguese starlet is set to ‘define a decade’ over the course of his career:

‘We already know we are going to lose one of our great players, one that I consider the best, one that will define a decade from now, which is Trincao.’
