Atletico Madrid reportedly looking to give Arsenal-linked Thomas Partey new deal with £93m release clause

Arsenal linked with Partey

Thomas Partey has been a mainstay in Atletico Madrid’s squad for several seasons now.

The 26-year-old is a product of Atletico’s youth system and has now notched up 174 appearances across all competitions for the Spanish outfit.

Partey has had a particularly fruitful 2019/20 campaign, impressing in both La Liga and the Champions League. The midfielder was especially impressive over two last 16 legs vs Liverpool, which Atletico won 4-2.

In the wake of his impressive form, Partey has been linked with a move to the Premier League.

As reported by the Telegraph last week, Arsenal will consider moving for Partey when the summer transfer window opens.

Said report from the Telegraph claimed Partey has a release clause of around £45m and is high on Mikel Arteta’s list of targets.

Atletico want to give Partey new deal

£45m, in today’s market, for a player of Partey’s ability does seem pretty cheap.

And it seems Atletico are aware of this and unfortunately for Arsenal, the La Liga giants look to be trying to tie the Ghana international to a fresh deal.

Partey’s current contract, which is said to have a release clause of around £45m, runs until the summer of 2023.

But according to the Daily Mail citing Goal, Madrid are attempting to ward off interest from both Manchester United and Arsenal by giving Partey a new deal.

The new contract Atletico are reportedly wanting to give the defensive-minded midfielder would have a release clause of £93m, according to the report from the Mail.

The report from Goal does claim Partey’s current release clause if £47m, a slightly higher figure than the Telegraph floated around. But even so, that fee is still fairly cheap for someone like Partey.
