Aston Villa tipped to move for reported Arsenal target Morgan Sanson

Morgan Sanson’s Marseille stint

Morgan Sanson is currently plying his trade in Ligue 1 with Marseille.

The midfielder joined the French outfit in January of 2017 from Montpellier, for a fee believed to be around £8m.

And the 26-year-old has since gone on to firmly cement himself as an integral member of Marseille’s side.

All told, Sanson has notched 156 appearances in all competitions for Les Phocéens.

Across these outings, meanwhile, he has provided 22 assists and scored 25 goals, a solid record for a player who generally operates as a central midfielder.

Aston Villa linked with Morgan Sanson

Amid his latest fine stretch of form of late, though, Sanson is said to be attracting interest from the Premier League.

Recent speculation from England has credited Arsenal with an interest in the Marseille man.

However, on Tuesday another PL outfit has also been linked with the Frenchman.

Said outfit is Aston Villa, with BBC Sport claiming that Dean Smith’s side have enquired about the midfielder.

Villa are said to have begun talks with Marseille over a deal for Sanson, who is available for around £15m.

It is added that Marseille are prepared to part ways with Sanson in order to fund their own January signings:

This report comes just days after Marseille boss, Andrea-Villas Boas, confirmed that Sanson has interest from England:

“We’ll see. The transfer window is open, Sanson is a player who is highly rated in England.

“Officially, we have not received any offers, unless it happened during the match. He is a boy who interests English teams because of his characteristics, and it is possible that something could happen.”
