Arsenal like Tyrone Mings & ‘accelerate’ moves to sign Joelson, while Man United face European competition for Jack Grealish

Are Aston Villa going down?

Aston Villa’s winless run has now been stretched to seven games.

Since the Premier League restarted, Villa picked up a point in a 0-0 draw with Sheffield United before the Villains lost 2-1 at home to Chelsea on Sunday.

Those results have left Dean Smith’s men second bottom of the league with only 26 points.

Next up for Villa is an away trip to Newcastle on Wednesday night.

Arsenal like Tyrone Mings

In the latest edition of the Ornstein & Chapman podcast for the Athletic, it’s been revealed that Arsenal are interested in Aston Villa centre-half Tyrone Mings.

Reporter David Ornstein has told his audience:

I understand there is interest in Tyrone Mings from a couple of big Premier League clubs.

Arsenal like him too, but whether that manifests itself in a bid, whether they could afford the sort of fee Villa are looking for… is a completely different matter.

Villa paid an initial 20 million pounds to sign Mings from Bournemouth last summer.

Other Arsenal transfer updates from David Ornstein

David Ornstein also painted the broad picture of what Arsenal would like to do in the next transfer window.

It’s claimed that the Gunners are looking to strengthen at central-half, central midfield, while also adding a and a wide player.

Chelsea’s Willian, who is set to become a free agent soon, is one Arsenal target.

Finally, David Ornstein reported that Gabriel Martinelli, who hasn’t featured against Man City or Brighton, remains in Arteta’s plans. Martinelli is expected to feature in the upcoming games.

Arsenal ‘accelerate’ moves to sign Joelson

Sticking with Arsenal transfer news, Portuguese paper O Jogo have today claimed that Arsenal are accelerating move to sign teenager Joelson from Sporting CP.

Joelson is a 17-year-old winger who is under contract in Lisbon until 2022.

This season Joelson has made 28 appearances in the Primiera Liga for the Lions. He’s scored 5 goals and chipped in with 2 assists.

According to O Jogo, Joelson’s current release clause is 45 million euros.

However, Sporting CP are in talks to renew Joelson’s contract. O Jogo report that the aim is to extend the deal until 2025, while raising Joelson’s exit clause to 100 million euros.

Man United face European competition for Jack Grealish

Returning to the Ornstein & Chapman podcast, it’s also been reported that Man United may face competition from European clubs to sign Jack Grealish from Aston Villa this summer.

According to Athletic reporter Gregg Evans, it seems highly unlikely that Grealish will remain at Villa Park even if the club manage to stay in the Premier League. He stated:

We know Man United are interested. But we know, if Villa do get relegated, then other clubs will come into the scenario.

The Manchester United interest is very strong. But it’s my understanding that there are other clubs interested

If Villa get relegated, that might open up the potential options on the continent. It’s my understanding that Jack Grealish wouldn’t necessarily be adverse to moving away. He’ll consider it at the end of the season.
