Arsenal handed major boost as Leicester star set to miss Sunday’s clash

Arsenal have been dealt a major boost for their weekend clash with Leicester City as it has emerged that Foxes forward Jamie Vardy will miss the trip to the Emirates Stadium, having sustained a knee injury against Leeds United.

Speaking ahead of Leicester’s Europa Conference League tie with Rennes, due to take place on Thursday, Brendan Rodgers revealed that Vardy is set for several weeks on the sidelines in the latest setback to Leicester’s stuttering season.

Having spent two months sidelined with a hamstring injury ahead of the clash with Leeds, it will be a bitter disappointment to the Foxes to lose their veteran striker once more.

‘He got a knock to his knee, but hopefully in the next three to four weeks it responds OK,’ said Rodgers.

‘He’s going to be out for a few weeks, which is a shame.’

Vardy has been in and out of the Leicester side this season, but remains the club’s joint-top goalscorer with 12 goals in 24 appearances this campaign.

And he has had no more success in his career than against Arsenal, who he has scored 11 times in 14 games against while playing for the Foxes, the best return of his career against any side.

Massive top 4 implications

Of course, Arsenal have been dealt a boost by this news, but given the importance of Vardy to Leicester City, they are not the only side.

Their fellow top 4 competitors Manchester United are also due to play Leicester at the beginning of April, meaning that they will also be able to take advantage of Vardy’s absence.

However, as can be seen above, Vardy could well be back in time for Tottenham’s clash with Leicester City, which could yet prove crucial in any top 4 hopes Antonio Conte’s side are harbouring.
