Pink Floyd 1973 live recordings on streaming services

Over the last couple of years, and in what could be almost seen as a bit of a Christmas present to the fans, Pink Floyd have quietly released a number of 1973 live recordings on the various streaming services, such as Spotify (https://www.spotify.com), Apple Music (https://music.apple.com), YouTube Music (https://music.youtube.com), Amazon Music (https://music.amazon.co.uk) and also the band’s official YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/pinkfloyd). The quality is rather variable – by the very nature of the unofficial, audience recordings – but the shows give a fascinating look at the concerts performed at the time of release of The Dark Side Of The Moon. The 1973 recordings released are listed with dates and venues as per the original bootlegs, and show as: – March 6th: Kiel Opera House, St Louis
– March 7th: Chicago International Amphitheatre
– March 8th: University of Cincinnati
– March 10th: Kent State University
– March 11th: Maple Leaf Gardens, Toronto
– March 14th: Boston Music Hall
– March 17th: Radio City Music Hall, New York
– May 18th: Earls Court, London
– May 19th: Earls Court, London
– June 17th: Saratoga Performing Arts Center, Saratoga Springs
– June 18th: Roosevelt Stadium, Jersey City
– June 20th: Merriweather Post Pavilion, Columbia
– June 28th: Sportatorium Hollywood Florida
– October 12th: Olympiahalle Munich
– October 13th: Vienna Stadthalle
– November 4th: Rainbow Theatre (Early Show)
– November 4th: Rainbow Theatre (Late Show) As with the batches released the last couple of years focused on 1971 and 1972, these are not expected to be around for long, and won’t be released physically on CD or LP, so make the most of them over the holiday and new year period before they disappear! Our thanks to those who emailed to let us know about these.

New Syd Barrett limited heavyweight vinyl LP collection available to order

Some very interesting news today from Third Man Records, who have quite a reputation for quality, limited pressing. They’ve teamed up with Sony Music Entertainment for a very special, limited edition box set that many of you will undoubtably be interested in! Individually out of print on LP for almost ten years (the last issue of these was in 2014) and never previously available together on vinyl, Third Man are releasing Syd Barrett’s solo albums – The Madcap Laughs, Barrett, and Opel – as the 57th installment of their Vault subscription series. This reissue sees January 1970’s The Madcap Laughs pressed on ‘Golden Hair’ coloured vinyl, November 1970’s Barrett on ‘Baby Lemonade’ coloured vinyl, and 1988’s Opel on ‘Milky Way Opal’ coloured vinyl. All three LPs are pressed on 180-gram vinyl at Third Man Pressing in Detroit and will come housed in a newly-designed slipcase featuring a recursive portrait of Syd by New York Times bestselling author and illustrator Greg Ruth, executed in one continuous line without lifting the pen. An added bonus to this collection is a 7-inch single by David Gilmour covering two Barrett compositions. Dominoes was recorded live at London’s Royal Festival Hall in January 2002, and Dark Globe was recorded live in Clam, Austria, as a tribute, shortly after Syd’s death in July 2006. Order by midnight local time July 31st to guarantee yourself a copy of this essential collection, only at ThirdManStore.co.uk (https://thirdmanstore.co.uk/blogs/vault-news/introducing-vault-package-57-the-solo-works-of-syd-barrett). You will need to take out at least a quarterly subscription, which will INCLUDE the Barrett boxset, but once received you should be able to cancel this subscription – unless you fancy future releases and the other benefits that Third Man Records offer to their subscribers.

Lee Harris interviewed re: Nick Mason’s Saucerful Of Secrets

A new podcast has started up, called Fingal’s Cave, which is aimed at “all true Pink Floyd fans” with a focus
on more in-depth subjects related to the band. As Ian Priston, co-host with Nils Zehnpfennig, alludes to in the first episode, it’s not really a podcast aimed at the Floyd novice! In the second episode, Nils meets Lee Harris, co-founder and guitarist with Nick Mason’s Saucerful of Secrets. As the podcast description neatly summarises, “Lee recalls being a fan of Pink Floyd from an early age, trips to Kensington and Camden markets in London to buy bootlegs and his memories of Floyd Xmas Mix ’93. Other highlights of the hour include, the story of how the Saucers were formed, Roger Waters’ performance in New York when he joined the band for Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun, and Lee’s experience of the famous concert in Luxembourg 2018.” A really great listen and well worth checking out. You can listen to it in full below, or via your favourite podcast platform such as Apple, Spotify or Amazon. Visit fingalscavepodcast.com (https://www.fingalscavepodcast.com) for more details of their offering.
