Photo | Review: Bring Me the Horizon takes Grand Rapids on a spiritual journey

Who: Bring Me The Horizon

Where: 20 Monroe Live Grand Rapids, MI

When: May 18, 2019

I haven’t seen BMTH in over 3 years, yet I was just as jumpy for this show as I was the last time. The rock band from Sheffield, England brought their Second Base Tour to 20 Monroe Live here in Grand Rapids. Since the release of their highly anticipated album Amo, BMTH have been touring nonstop and playing some major festivals. Being the last show of the US leg of this tour it was quite thrilling. The line for the show wrapped around the block only minutes before the show started. Once doors opened they were introduced to English rapper Scarlxrd who was the perfect opener. He knew how to control the crowd and warmed them up for the main event. When it was BMTH’s turn to take the stage, the lights went out and two dancers took the stage while a voice spoke about taking a journey and ended with “Welcome to Mantra” following the band immediately coming out and the crowd went wild with excitement. The band played favorites from Amo as well as from past releases. The production on this run was my favorite they have done. The LED screen, dancers, smoke cannons, even the costumes they used were perfect. This band definitely knew how to take it next level.
