Liverpool’s Mo Salah has second highest transfer value in Europe’s top five leagues- CIES

Salah second in CIES’ top 100 list

On Thursday the 13th of June The International Centre for Sports Studies or CIES Football Observatory released their top 100 list consisting of the players with the highest transfer values in Europe’s top five leagues for the 2018/19 season, according to their research.

Note for true football fans: English Premier League fixtures and tickets for the 2019/20 EPL season were posted on Thursday, June 13, 2019, and are moving fast.

The most expensive player on CIES’ list was PSG and France forward Kylian Mbappe.

This does make some sense given his age, ability and the fact he has already won a World Cup with France.

Then 2nd on the list is Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah who CIES claim to be valued at €219.6.

Elsewhere in the top 10, Lionel Messi is down in 4th spot being valued at €167.4m while Cristiano Ronaldo doesn’t even crack the top 10.

Most expensive players by position

CIES have also released some lists showing the most expensive players by position.

Starting with the goalkeeper, this list is pretty heavily dominated by Premier League players.

Liverpool’s Alisson tops the list with Manchester City’s Ederson in 2nd.

The PL once again dominates the defender’s list with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk earning 1st and 2nd spot.

The CIES midfielders list also sees the English top-flight claim the top two spots through Paul Pogba and Dele Alli.
