Agent of key Chelsea man performs U-turn with Serie A transfer admission

The agent of Chelsea vice-captain Jorginho has backtracked on previous comments to leave the door ajar for a potential return to Serie A in the future.

It took some time for the former Napoli midfielder to win over the Chelsea faithful after following Maurizio Sarri to the club, forcing him to deny that he was the coach’s ‘golden boy’. Since then, he has begun to stamp his authority on the team more regularly under Frank Lampard, earning the role of vice-captain.

With the Brazil-born Italy international having proven to be a crucial part of Sarri’s system at Napoli, there was speculation that the 60-year-old would try and take Jorginho with him to Juventus, having made the switch back to Serie A in the summer.

Jorginho’s agent Joao Santos distanced the player from such rumours, when he said in September that the 27-year-old would be looking to stay at Stamford Bridge for “at least another four years”.

However, Santos has now given a fresh interview to Radio Sportiva, in which he declares that, while playing in the Premier League is helping Jorginho keep his place in the Italy team, he may have a desire to return to the country he lived in from the age of 15.

“It has certainly been a positive year for Jorginho,” he said (via Football-Italia).

“He is doing well for the national team and can take part in the Euros. He always converts his penalties, I am very happy for him, as he is working so hard every day.

“Naturally, it was not positive when Giampiero Ventura was the Italy coach, but he has slowly become first choice in that midfield.

“It certainly helps that he plays for Chelsea, because it’s a very intense style of football in England and he learned a lot from both Maurizio Sarri and Frank Lampard.

“I think Jorginho can do very well at the Euros and, why not, also at the next World Cup. As for a return to Serie A, anything is possible, and he will always feel the desire to come back home.”

Another Chelsea star linked with reuniting with Sarri at Juventus is Emerson Palmieri, although the chances of the deal happening are low. Read the full story here.
